Court cancels AL leader’s bail, issues arrest of warrant in Sherpur

SHERPUR, Oct 20, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today cancelled bail of Sherpur district unit Awami League ex-general secretary Advocate Chandon Kumar Paul and issued arrest warrant against him.
Senior Judicial Magistrate of Sherpur Md Hassan Bhuiyan cancelled Chandon Kumar Paul’s time petition, moved by his lawyer before the court.

The public prosecutor (PP) of the District and Sessions Judge Court Advocate Abdul Mannan appeared on behalf of the state.

The lawyer of Chandon Kumar Paul was not present before the court during the hearing. Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Ashrafur Nahar Ruby and Court Inspector Ziaur Rahman assisted the PP. 

Chandon Kumal Paul, also a former public prosecutor of the district, recently obtained ad interim bail from the High Court and the District and Sessions Judge Court here.

Meanwhile, the leaders and workers of anti-discrimination student movement and members of martyred families staged a sit-in on the court premises and in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC’s) office demanding fulfillment of their 7 points. They demanded immediate withdrawal of District and Sessions Judge and its Public Prosecutor.

Among others, central organizer of Jatiya Juba Shakti Mahmudul Hassan Rakib, NCP leader Rashedul Hassan Dewan, former leader of anti-discrimination student movement Shahnur Rahman Sayem and Morshed Jitu, spoke at the programme.

They later withdrew their programme after discussion with local Deputy Commissioner (DC) Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman. 

Chandon Kumar Paul released on bail from the District and Sessions Judge Court on September 28 following a High Court order. 

On the other hand, the leaders and workers of anti-discrimination student movement, members of the martyred families and July warriors on October 6 staged demonstrations in front of the court and offices of the DC and Police Super demanding cancelation of Chandon Paul’s bail. 

Meanwhile, District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Jarihul Kabir following a petition submitted by the PP imposed travel ban on Paul and ordered to seize his passport.
