Ex-MP Nur Mohammad sent to jail in Anti-Terrorism Act case

DHAKA, July 01, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sent former Jamalpur-1 lawmaker Nur Mohammad to jail after end of his three-day remand in a case filed with Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Raju Ahmed passed the order as police produced him before the court and pleaded to keep him behind bars till the end of probe.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam on June 28 placed the former lawmaker on a three-day remand in the case.

Nur Mohammad was arrested during a raid at a house in the capital's Gulshan area on the night of June 27.

According to the case statement, leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Awami League and its associate bodies allegedly brought out a procession on Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Sarani at around 9:30 am on June 18. They allegedly chanted anti-government slogans and exploded cocktails. Police later filed the case in connection with the incident.
