CHATTOGRAM, July 26, 2026 (BSS) - A Chattogram court today awarded a man life-term in jail and additional six months in case of defaulting fine Tk 20,000 in a child rape case.
Judge Syeda Hafsa Jhuma of the Chattogram Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict in the presence of the convict.
The convict, Akhtar Sardar (24), is the son of Md. Sattar Sardar, a resident of Kukraparshi under the Jamalganj police station in Sunamganj district.
According to the case details, the victim was a fourth-grader at the time of the incident in 2022 and her parents worked as day laborers. Akhtar used to live nearby and frequently visit the victim's home in the Sadarghat police station area of the Chattogram city.
On July 2, 2022, he found the child alone at home, raped her and subsequently threatened her to kill if she disclosed the incident to anyone. Following this, she was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for treatment, said the case statement.
After the incident, victim's father Monir Hossain lodged a complaint with Sadarghat Police Station. The charge sheet in the case was submitted in the court on November 21, 2023 while the trial began on April 15, 2024 after the charges were formally framed, according to the case details.
Public Prosecutor (PP) Mahmud-ul Alam Chowdhury Maruf said after the delivery of the verdict, the convict was sent to jail.
