DHAKA, July 26, 2026 (BSS) – The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 today took into the cognizance the formal charge filed in a case filed over the brutal killing of Shaikh Ashhabul Yamin in Savar during the 2024 July Mass Uprising.

The second tribunal headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury passed the order, issuing arrest warrant against 13of the total 19 accused in the case. It also ordered to produce the six other accused before it on August 25.

The accused in the case are-former additional superintendent of police (Crime and Ops) of Dhaka district Md Abdullahil Kafi, former lawmaker of Dhaka-16 constituency Saiful Islam, former deputy inspector general (DIG) of Dhaka Range Syed Nurul Islam, former superintendent of police Asaduzzaman Ripon, former additional superintendent of police (Savar Circle) Md Shahidul Islam, former officer-in-charge (OC) of Savar Police Station Shahjaman, former officer-in-charge (OC) of Ashulia Police Station AFM Sayed, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Ali, Nayek Suhel Mia, Constable Mahfuz Mia, former Savar upazila chairman Manjurul Alam Rajib, Md Atikur Rahman, Fakhrul Alam Samor, Mehedi Hasan Tushar, Raju Ahmed, Md Farid, Zaman Khan, Mizanur Rahman GS Mizan and Sharif Ashraful Alam Babul.

Police were seen dragging wounded Yamin, a fourth-year student in the Computer Science and Engineering department at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in Dhaka, from a police APC in the Savar Bank Colony area on July 18, and dropping his body like a sack of rice on the street. The shocking footage of this brutal act by the police spread on social media.

Yamin, still breathing, was then tossed across the road divider and left to die from his wounds. He was taken to different hospitals, where the authorities refused to treat him and was finally taken to police station. He was allegedly tortured there to his death.
