One gets life term for killing auto-rickshaw driver in Kadamtali

DHAKA, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today convicted and sentenced one Md Al Amin Sheikh to life imprisonment and fined him Tk 20,000 in a case filed over the murder of battery-run auto-rickshaw driver Emon Kazi and concealing his body in the capital's Kadamtali area in 2023.

Judge Mohammad Moin Uddin Chowdhury of Dhaka 3rd Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court pronounced the judgment this noon in the presence of the convict and later sent him to jail with conviction warrant.

The court sentenced Md Al Amin Sheikh to three years' rigorous imprisonment and fined him Tk 5,000 for destroying evidence and concealing the victim's body, additional public prosecutor Jahirul Islam Qaium told BSS.

According to the case documents, Emon Kazi went out of his home with his auto-rickshaw on May 30, 2023, but never returned. His auto-rickshaw was found abandoned in the Farashganj shrine area in the middle of the night. Emon's father filed a general diary in this connection the following day.

Emon's decomposing body was found stuffed in a sack in a drain beside West Mohammadbagh Sona Mabia Mosque on June 3. His father filed a case with Kadamtali Police Station in this connection.

Following a preliminary investigation, police arrested Al Amin Sheikh from Gobindapur village under Hijla Police Station in Barishal on June 5, 2023. He later gave confessional statement before the court. Police on February 14, 2024, filed charge-sheet in the case.

A total of 10 prosecution witnesses testified on different hearing dates.
