DHAKA, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today imposed a travel ban on
activities-banned organisation Bangladesh Awami League (AL) office secretary
Biplab Barua, his wife Soma Barua, brother Bidyut Barua and his wife Agni
Barua.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order,
allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the case documents, allegations are under investigation that
Biplab Barua, Soma Barua, Bidyut Barua and Agni Barua committed offences
punishable under the Money Laundering Prevention Act by illegally earning
money through corruption, bribery, abuse of power and various irregularities,
and transacting the money through bank accounts operated in their own names
as well as in the names of persons and organisations linked to their
interests.
"The accused persons might leave the country and flee abroad. Therefore,
imposing a travel ban on them is essential in the interest of a fair
investigation into the allegations," the ACC plea added.
