DHAKA, Nov 03, 2025 (BSS) - The widow of a man who was shot dead by police
after leaving his Rampura home to attend Jumma prayers on July 19, 2024,
appeared today as a prosecution witness before the International Crimes
Tribunal (ICT)-1, where she demanded justice for her husband's killing.

Tabassum Akter Niha, wife of martyr Nadim Mizan, testified as the third
prosecution witness in the ongoing crimes against humanity case. She
described how locals brought her husband home in a critical condition, blood
pouring from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

"I lost consciousness seeing my husband like that. After 4 or 5 minutes, when
I regained my senses, I learned that he had been taken to Advance Hospital
nearby. I couldn't go because of ongoing gunfire outside. Doctors declared
him dead on arrival," Niha said.

Later, Niha learned that Nadim had been shot by police or BGB personnel near
the mosque after Jumma prayers, she added.

She further described how their home came under tear gas shelling from above
when crowds gathered there to mourn.

"Tear gas canisters were fired from a helicopter at our house and the people
below. One exploded on our rooftop. I could hear the helicopter's sound from
my room, and my eyes were burning from the gas. We took my husband's body to
the Mirpur-1 Eidgah at around 10 pm for Janaza, which was held an hour later.
He was buried at the Mirpur Intellectual Graveyard," she continued.

Following her testimony, Niha was cross-examined by the defence.

Later, Md Yakub, a gents' salon owner and neighbour of another victim Md
Basit Khan Musa, testified as the fourth prosecution witness. He corroborated
how the six-year-old boy was shot in the head and how the same way another
bullet also killed his grandmother on July 19, 2024.

The prosecution submitted formal charges in the case on August 7, accusing
law enforcement officials of opening fire on a student hanging from a
building cornice in Rampura and killing two others in the area.

On September 18, ICT-1 framed charges against former Dhaka Metropolitan
Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former Additional Deputy
Commissioner (ADC) of Khilgaon Zone Md Rashedul Islam, former Officer-in-
Charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station Md Moshiur Rahman, former Sub-Inspector
Tariqul Islam Bhuiyan, and former Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Chanchal
Chandra Sarkar. Of the five accused, Chanchal has been arrested and is facing
trial in person.
