DHAKA, Nov 27, 2025 (BSS) - Noting that the Rohingya issue had become a forgotten matter during the previous regime, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today said the interim government brought the Rohingya crisis back to the international forum.

"Since 2017, the Rohingya issue became a forgotten matter until this interim government assumed office. Bringing the Rohingya crisis back to the international talking point is one of the successes of the interim government," he said.

The press secretary was replying to a question while briefing the media at the Foreign Service Academy here this afternoon on the outcome of the Council of Advisers meeting today. Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad was present at the briefing.

Referring to the the high-level conference on the 'Situation of Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities' in Myanmar, held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 30 this year, Shafiqul Alam said representatives from different countries spoke at the conference.

At the conference, he said, the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK) announced a fresh aid commitment of US$ 96 million for Rohingyas.

The press secretary highlighted the visit of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to Cox's Bazar in May this year and Rohingya conference in Cox's Bazar in August, saying all of these were the government's efforts to bring the Rohingya issue back to the global map.

"The government has made strong efforts to draw global attention to the issue again. We have been successful in this regard," he added.

Pointing finger at deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Shafiqul Alam said the "fallen autocrat" tried to sell her "Mother of Humanity" image instead of doing the real work on the ground.

He said, however, the interim government was serious from its beginning. Therefore, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus set up a High Representative Office and appointed a high representative to handle the Rohingya issue.

Due to the interim government's sincere efforts, the entire world now knows the Rohingya crisis very well, he said, hoping that positive results would come in the days coming ahead.
