In a letter isasued here on Tuesday, the EC said in view of the polls, the movement of launches and engine boats - except those operating on designated routes - will remain suspended from midnight of February 11 to midnight of February 12.

However, the restriction may be relaxed with permission from the Returning Officer for contesting candidates and their polling agents, as well as accredited local and foreign observers, it read.

It also clarified that the restriction will not be  applicable for the accredited journalists engaged in election coverage, officials and employees on election duty, members of law enforcement agencies, and watercraft used for emergency services including ambulances, fire service, electricity, gas, postal and telecommunication operations.
