THAKURGAON, Jan 31, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said his party wants to build a peaceful Bangladesh free from discrimination, stressing that communal division only harms the country.
"We want to build a peaceful Bangladesh where there will be no discrimination among people of all religions, including Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and Christians. Those who try to create division want to harm the country," Fakhrul said, adding that unity is the only way forward for the nation.
He made the remarks while addressing a street rally at the Akcha Nimbari area of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila today.
Fakhrul said the country is not safe in the hands of those who opposed Bangladesh's independence and urged people to remain united to protect national sovereignty and democratic values.
Addressing voters, he said he would never betray the trust placed in him by the people, adding that he would always honor the responsibility entrusted to him through their votes.
Referring to remarks made by BNP chairman Tarique Rahman at a rally in Rangpur, Fakhrul said that if BNP voted to power, agricultural loans of up to Tk 10,000 would be waived along with interest.
Fakhrul also highlighted his personal commitment to honesty in politics, saying that during his tenure as a minister he never accepted even a cup of tea from anyone. "Maintaining honesty and morality in politics is very important," he said.
Displaying samples of family cards and farmer cards, Fakhrul said family cards would be issued to women household heads. With the card, families would be able to buy essential commodities such as rice, pulses, oil and salt at fair prices, receive healthcare benefits and enjoy increased educational support for children.
He said farmers are the most deprived despite suffering the most and announced that farmer cards would be introduced to ensure fair prices for fertilizer, seeds and irrigation water.
The BNP secretary general further said that Tarique Rahman has pledged to create one crore jobs for educated unemployed youths within 18 months of forming the government.
"These are not just words. We have proven in the past that we can deliver," Fakhrul said, adding that BNP would maintain peace and order and establish non-communal politics in the country.
