DHAKA, May 19, 2026 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has said artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and digital capability are no longer just technological issues; rather, they have become essential conditions for ensuring state security, policymaking, and surviving in global competition.

“If a country falls behind in digital capability, its state policies, security strategies, and critical information could easily come under threat in the future,” he said.

The minister made the remarks this afternoon at a seminar on cyber security organized by the Young Engineers Chapter of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh at the Engineers Institution in the capital.

Swapon said the world is rapidly entering an era driven by artificial intelligence. In this reality, Bangladesh must develop skilled human resources, incorporate digital knowledge into educational curricula, and ensure a deep understanding of technology at the policymaking level in order to remain competitive, he said.

He called upon technologists and researchers to raise awareness among both the general public and policymakers about technological realities and potential risks.

The minister also emphasized identifying talented young people in the country and developing them into skilled professionals in advanced technology and digital security sectors.

Young Engineers Chapter Chairman Engineer Md. Tofazzel Hossain chaired the event while IEB President Engineer Riazul Islam Riju, its General Secretary Sabbir Mostafa Khan and Engineer Shahrin Islam Tuhin, among others, also spoke while Engineer Md. Redwan Zaman Anik presented the keynote paper.
