CHATTOGRAM, July 27, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku today announced plans to elevate the Chattogram Zoo to international standards.

"The zoo will be developed not just as a place of recreation, but also as a center for animal conservation, research, education and raising public awareness about biodiversity," Tuku said told journalists after his visit to the zoo today.

He said, "Our future generations, especially students from schools, colleges and universities, will be able to gain practical knowledge about the country's important animals, their lifestyles, characteristics and environmental significance."

He said the purpose of a modern zoo is not merely to display animals, but to ensure an integrated environment for animal conservation, research, education, environmental awareness and healthy recreation.

"To achieve this, the Chattogram Zoo will incorporate modern infrastructure, improved management, a visitor-friendly environment, and various educational activities," he added.

During the zoo visit, Chattogram-7 lawmaker Hummam Kader Chowdhury, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Md. Shahjaman Khan and senior officials from various government departments were present.
