DINAJPUR, July 31, 2026 (BSS) – Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain today said there is no alternative to tree plantation for maintaining environmental balance, urging people to plant more trees for a greener future.
He made the remarks while inaugurating a three-day tree plantation campaign and tree fair at Nawabganj upazila in Dinajpur with the theme “Let’s decorate the country through tree plantation, Bangladesh first.”
The minister said tree fairs are being organised across the country to encourage people to plant fruit-bearing, forest and medicinal trees.
He urged citizens to plant saplings in vacant spaces around their homes, saying trees provide long-term benefits, including fruits, environmental protection and medicinal support.
Dr. Zahid said the government is working continuously for people's welfare, social security and overall development.
Later, he inaugurated repair and beautification work of the Nawabganj Upazila Parishad auditorium and distributed sewing machines, educational stipends and financial assistance among beneficiaries under different government programmes.
Government officials, public representatives, teachers, students and local dignitaries attended the event.
