DHAKA, Aug 1, 2026 (BSS) – US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Ambassador Sergio Gor today said strengthening economic cooperation and the broader partnership with Bangladesh is a priority for the United States, following his meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
“Today, I had the opportunity to discuss with the Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman the great opportunities between the U.S. and Bangladesh to enhance economic cooperation and strengthen our partnership,” Gor said in a statement disseminated by the US Embassy in Dhaka after the meeting.
“This is a priority for the United States, and together we can achieve real success!” he added.
The remarks came after the US special envoy called on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in Dhaka during his first official visit to Bangladesh, underscoring Washington’s emphasis on expanding bilateral economic engagement and deepening the overall partnership.
Gor arrived in Dhaka on a three-day visit on July 30 and has held a series of meetings with senior Bangladeshi officials, including Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.
