DHAKA, July 9, 2024 (BSS) - Planning Minister Major General (retd) Abdus Salam today asked the concerned officials to strengthen further the Statistics and Informatics Division through working with honesty and transparency imbued with patriotism.
He also directed the officials to work more fruitful manner through reorganization of their work.
"The current government has been working with firm resolve to build a happy and prosperous Sonar Bangla and thus framing Five Year Plan and Perspective Plan to move forward the country. Accurate data is very much necessary for framing proper planning and its implementation. Hence, statistics plays a vital role in this regard," he said.
The Planning Minister said this while addressing a view-exchange meeting with the officials of the Statistics and Informatics Division under the Ministry of Planning held at the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) in the capital today, said a press release.
He also urged all concerned to work in unison to turn Bangladesh into a prosperous, developed country through materializing the Perspective Plan 2041.
Salam asked the Statistics and Informatics Division and the BBS to publish concise, easily perceivable and integrated statistics through which anyone would be able to know the overall economic condition of the country.
At the outset of the meeting, Senior Secretary of Statistics and Informatics Division Dr Shahnaz Arefin apprised the Planning Minister about the establishment, operations, current progress, future plans of the Statistics and Informatics Division and the BBS.
Salam enquired about the activities of the eight wings of the BBS.
In the meeting, the Senior Secretary briefed the minister about the regular, monthly, quarterly, biannual, annual statistics including agricultural census, economic census, population census and CPI.
After the meeting, the Planning Minister inspected the ongoing economic census activities through the Integrated Census Management System (ICMS) of the Statistics Division and at one point spoke directly to the person engaged in data collection at the field level.
BBS Director General Mohammad Mizanur Rahman along with officials of the Statistics and Informatics Division and BBS were present among others.
