DHAKA, Nov 19, 2024 (BSS) – Fresher’s reception and farewell programme of Dhaka University’s Persian Language and Literature department was held today at the auditorium of Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on DU campus.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan addressed the programme as chief guest while Iranian Ambassador in Bangladesh Mansour Chavoshi and Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha attended as special guests, with the department’s Chairperson Prof Dr. Md. Mumit Al Rashid in the chair.
Prof Niaz congratulated the newly enrolled students to the university and wished the outgoing students success in their future lives.
He said, “Persian language and literature are about 600 years old. The teachers and students of the Persian Language and Literature department have a unique role in the research sector of this enriched language and literature”.
The VC thanked the Iranian ambassador for his support in the practice of Persian language and literature and said, “Bangladesh and Iran are long-time tested friends”.
He said the people of the two countries have deep ties in various fields including history, tradition, culture, politics, and economics. Prof Niaz emphasized on expanding joint cooperative education and research activities between the Dhaka University and various universities and educational institutions of Iran to further strengthen the friendly relationship.
Arts faculty dean Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Cultural Counsellor of the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka Seyed Reza Mirmohammadi, Prof Dr. KM Saiful Islam Khan and Associate Professor Md. Ahsanul Hadi also addressed the occasion.
In the programme, the students who secured the highest CGPA in the MA examinations of the academic year 2021-2022 were honoured. At the end of the day, a delightful cultural program was staged with the participation of the students of the department.
