CHATTOGRAM, Nov 27, 2024 (BSS) - Members of the joint forces have detained at least 30 people in overnight drive across the port city in connection with the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, police said.

Advocate Alif was hacked to death allegedly by the supporters of Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari during a fierce clash between the Jote supporters and police yesterday.

The clash ensued when Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court rejected Chinmoy’s bail plea and sent him to jail in sedition charges.  

Confirming the arrest, Additional Deputy Commissioner (public relations) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Kazi Tarek Aziz said after verification, the detainees will be shown arrested in Alif murder case.
