DHAKA, Nov 27, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today exempted BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman from a case filed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for alleged tax evasion.
Judge Rezaul Karim of Dhaka Special Judge Court-10 passed the order today as it found the allegations brought against the BNP leader "imaginary and fabricated".
Then deputy commissioner Samia Akter of Dhaka Taxes Zone-6 filed the case on July 28, 2008, for evading taxes of Taka 26.86 lakh. The complainant had alleged that Tarique from 2002 to 2006 had made an income of Taka 1.47 crore from different sources but failed to pay Taka 26.86 lakh in taxes against that income.
