Police arrest absconding death awardee father for killing daughter

DHAKA, Jan 1, 2025 (BSS) - A team of Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police has arrested an absconding death awardee father in a case filled for strangulating to death his 18-month old daughter at Bhairov from Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

ATU personnel arrested Md Abul Hossain alias Abdullah, 37, on Tuesday who fled Kashimpur High Security Prison partially broken in an attack by a mob during an anarchic situation after the fall of fascist Sheikh Hasina's government on August 6 last.

Hossain alias Abdullah hailed from Shambhupur Rail gate area under Bhairob upazila in Kishoreganj district, An ATU press release said.

He had been hiding in different areas of Chattogram district for long and that on December 13, he was admitted to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital after receiving critical injuries in a road accident.

The ATU team conducted a drive in the hospital responding to an intelligence report and arrested him.

Further legal action is under process against the arrested person.

Earlier, First Additional District and Sessions Judge Court of Kishoreganj awarded him death penalty in 2017 as the court found him guilty over murder of her daughter in 2011.

Her wife Suraiya Begum filed the murder case with Bhairob Thana after her daughter's death in the same year.
