Travel ban imposed on ex-DMP chief Faruq

DHAKA, Jan 01, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today imposed travel embargo on former commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Khandker Golam Faruque and his wife Sharmin Akter over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Assistant director of the ACC Md Rakibul Hayat filed the plea, saying the anti-graft body is probing allegations of amassing illegal wealth of Taka 3,000 crore and laundering money abroad against the former DMP chief and his wife. 

The ACC learned that the accused are trying to flee the country to evade justice and travel ban should be imposed against them to make them to stand trial, the petition said.
