Ex-MP Solaiman of Chuadnga-2, wife sued for hiding wealth

DHAKA, Jan 02, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former Chuadanga-2 constituency MP Solaiman Haque Joarddar (Selun) and his wife Akhtari Joarddar for amassing wealth illegally and concealing information in the wealth statement submitted to the ACC.

Director General (Prevention) M Akhter Hossain of the anti-graft watchdog told journalists at the ACC Headquarters that the two cases were filed today.

According to the cases’ statement, accused Solaiman Haque Joarddar (Selun) abused his power as a former MP of Chuadanga-2 constituency and Chuadanga District Awami League president.

He amassed assets worth Tk 7 crore, 55 lakh, 52 thousand and 791 through bribery and corruption, it said.

Besides, Solaiman committed money laundering crimes by transferring Tk 15 crore, 71 lakh, 35 thousand and 558 to various bank accounts and converting those into various business purposes, it revealed.
Meanwhile, Solaiman Haque Joarddar and his wife Aktari Joarddar have been accused in another case.

Aktari Joarddar, with the help of her husband, acquired Taka four crore, five lakh and 431 as an undeclared assets through corruption as well.

Apart from this, she committed the crime of money laundering by transferring Taka seven crore, 60 lakh and 64 thousand to various bank accounts and converting it into business investments.
