Court orders to interrogate DU ex-BCL leader at jail gate

DHAKA, Jan 04, 2025(BSS)-A court here today ordered the police to interrogate former president of banned Chhatra League of Bijoy Ekattor Hall of Dhaka University at jail gate in connection with an attempt to murder case.

Sajibur Rahman Sajib, former president of banned Chhatra League was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court with a prayer for granting his 10 days police remand. 

Meanwhile, his lawyer prayed for granting bail and opposed the remand prayer. After hearing both the sides, Metropolitan Magistrate Ishrat Jenifar Jerin rejected the bail petition and remand prayer and ordered the police to interrogate him at the jail gate.

Police arrested Sajib from Jafrabad area under Hajaribagh Thana on Friday night.
Police said, Sajib is the accused number 14 of a case filed with Shahbagh Thana for his alleged involvement in an attack on the supporters of anti-discrimination students’ movement at Dhaka University campus on July 15.

Abu Sayad Bin Mahin Sarkar, a resident student of Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall on October 21 filed the case against 391 persons including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

The complainant alleged that the leaders and activists of recently banned Chhatra League,  and Awami League, Juba League, Sheschhasebok League, Sramik League and outsidess under the direction of ousted prime minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina and its general secretary Obaidul Quader attacked on the general students with local and foreign arms.

They wearing helmets injured many students by exploding cocktails and opening indiscriminate firie during the series of attacks.
