DHAKA, Jan 4 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka District Administration has taken initiatives to establish a fair price market named "Janatar Bazaar" aimed at checking the price hike of essential food items to give a sigh of relief to the people.

Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Tanvir Ahmed made the announcement at a view exchange meeting held at the government ground adjacent to Zaker Dairy Farm in Agha Mohammadpur Beribandh area here.

Speaking at the event, he said, ”Special market will be launched from the first day of next February to directly connect farmers and consumers. In this market, essential products including fish, meat, milk, eggs and vegetables will be supplied at affordable prices.”

He said that the goal of setting up the market is to establish a direct relationship between farmers and consumers by avoiding the influence of middlemen.

“This will also control the price of the products. We have initially identified such markets in six places in Dhaka. Its scope will be expanded in phases,” he said.

There will be only a retail system and a fixed price list will be followed for purchasing products, Tanvir said, adding that buyers will receive a code by paying digitally, which they can show to collect the products.

He also said, “We want to control the market by ensuring the supply of food items at fair prices through this market.”

The government's Agriculture Department, Commerce Ministry and Consumer Rights Protection Department will cooperate in this initiative, he said.
