Two leaders of banned BCL remanded in murder attempt case

DHAKA, Jan 5, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed two leaders of banned
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on one day remand each in a case lodged over
alleged attempt to murder a Dhaka University (DU) student during the anti-
discrimination students movement on July 15.

The two remanded accused are BCL central joint general secretary and its
Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Huq Hall unit president Kamal Uddin Rana and its
Surja Sen Hall unit organizing secretary Abdullah Khan Shoishab.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Haque passed the order as police
produced the duo before the court and pleaded to place them on a 10-day
remand each.

The two were arrested in separate drives in the capital last night.

A procession of DU students in support of the anti-discrimination students
movement took off in front of the Raju sculpture on the campus in the
afternoon of July 15, 2024, police sources said.

At that time, leaders and activists of various affiliated organisations of
the Awami League (AL), including the banned BCL, attacked the protesting
students with local and foreign-made weapons in which 300 students were
seriously injured.

DU student Arman Hossain, who was injured in the brutal attack, filed the
case on October 28 against 220 including BCL president Saddam Hossain.
