4 get death, 8 life-term for killing farmers in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, Jan 5, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced four people to
death and eight to life-term imprisonment for killing two farmers in Ullapara
upazila of the district in 2017.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-3 Judge M Mahabubur Rahman
pronounced the verdict at noon in presence of the convicts, said Advocate
Hamidul Islam Dulal, additional public prosecutor of the district Judge
Court.

The convicts sentenced to death are Hasanur Rahman Hasu, M Kauser Ali, M
Mouazzem Hossain Rintu and Jahidul Islam Jalim, residents of Chakpangasi
village of the upazila. Eight who received life-term are: M Motaleb, Rejaul,
Saddam, Monir Hossain, Ashraf Ali, Belal Hossain, Dulal Hossain and Abdul
Awual, residents of the same area.

The prosecution story, in brief, the convicts attacked and killed farmers
Saiful Islam and Mokbul Hossain of the village over previous enmity on
January 21, 2017.

Later, a case was filed with Ullapara Police Station in this connection
against 51 people.

After investigation, police submitted charge-sheet to the court on October
19, 2017.

After examining 21 witnesses and evidence, the judge found them guilty and
announced the judgment.

The court also acquitted 39 people of the case as the charges brought against
them were not proved.
