Ex-IGP Mamun shown arrested in fresh murder case

DHAKA, Jan 6, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today showed former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun arrested in a case filed over killing of one Sabbir Hossain during the student-led July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masuma Rahman passed the order as police produced the former IGP before the court and pleaded to show him arrested in the case.

According to the case documents, Sabbir took part in a peaceful rally of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the Ravindra Swarani area in Uttara Sector-7 on July 18.

Suddenly, the goons of Awami League and its affiliated bodies pounced on the agitators, firing indiscriminately at them. Sabbir got shot on his throat.

He was rushed to Uttara Crescent Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead. Sabbir's father Amod Ali filed the case with Uttara West Police Station on September 19.

Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was arrested by a team of detective branch (DB) of police on September 3. He has already been shown arrested in many cases lodged over murder and attempt to murder those have been taken place during July-August mass uprising.
