DHAKA, Jan 6, 2025 (BSS) - The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) will begin investigation into some judges of the Supreme Court (HC) next week.

“Following Article 96(5)(b) of the Constitution, the President has asked the Supreme Judicial Council to investigate on some judges of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh,” the Supreme Court administration came up with the updates on its website.

As per the instruction, the Supreme Judicial Council has decided to start the investigation next week, it said.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court delivered its verdict on October 20, after observing and disposing of the much-discussed 'review' of the 16th Amendment to the Constitution regarding the provision for the removal of Supreme Court judges.

The six-member Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed gave the historic verdict through which the power to remove judges returned from the Parliament to the Supreme Judicial Council.
