“Maritime Domain Awareness 2024” seminars held in Ctg, Khulna

DHAKA, Jan 6, 2025 (BSS) - As part of Bangladesh Navy's annual sea exercise “Exercise Safe Guard-2024”, a seminar entitled “Maritime Domain Awareness-2024” was held in Chittagong and Khulna naval areas today.

On the occasion, two seminars were held at Area Multipurpose Hall in Chattogram and at BNS Titumir in Khulna, said a release of the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) this evening.

With the aim of increasing mutual cooperation between organizations and users of marine resources, Regional Commander of Chattogram Naval Region Rear Admiral Mir Ershad Ali and Regional Commander of Khulna Naval Region Rear Admiral Golam Sadek respectively attended two seminars as the chief guests.

In the Chattogram seminar, safe commercial expansion in the sea, use of marine mineral resources for energy security, sound management of fisheries resources, navigation crisis of inland waterways and ways to overcome it, developing of environment-friendly maritime industry and protecting the environment and biodiversity dominated the discussion.

Meanwhile, in the Khulna seminar a brief discussion was held on 'Capacity Building of Mongla Port Authority', 'Navigability crisis of inland waterways and ways to overcome it', 'Sustainable shipbuilding process and environment-friendly marine industry development', 'Marine biodiversity conservation and pollution prevention strategies in inland water bodies’, ensuring alternative employment of fishermen during the restriction on catching fish  were also discussed.

Speaking on the occasion, the maritime experts put emphasis on formulating an integrated action plan for the development of the blue economy, the ISPR added.

Representatives of Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force, ports authority, Bangladesh Coast Guard, representatives of BIWTA, Bangladesh Technological University, Chittagong University, Marine Fisheries Academy, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Chittagong Custom's House, Mongla Customs House BNCC, Department of Fisheries Bangladesh Oceanography Research Institute (BORI) and Department of Environment, among others, were present.
