Jubo League leader Nazrul remanded over murder during uprising

DHAKA, Jan 8, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed Dhaka South City ward-56 Awami Jubo League vice-president Nazrul Islam Kabiraj on a three-day remand in a case lodged over killing of one Md Ali during student-led July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman passed the order, as police produced Nazrul before the court and pleaded to put him on a seven-day remand in the case lodged with the Lalbagh Police Station.

Locals apprehend Nazrul Islam Kabiraj on January 1 and handed him over to police.

According to the case documents, Md Ali joined anti-discrimination student rally in Azimpur Colony area on July 19. At around 4 pm, police and Awami League cadres attacked the rally, opening fire indiscriminately at the protesters. Ali got shot in the attack.

People rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.

The case was filed with Lalbagh Police Station on December 30.
