DHAKA, Jan 8, 2025 (BSS) - Begum Khaleda Zia and her eldest son Tarique Rahman were reunited today after a long 2,733 days, rendering an emotional atmosphere as mother and son hugged each other with heavenly warmth at Heathrow International Airport in London.

Tarique Rahman got the cherished moment of embracing his mother ending a long separation on arrival of Khaleda Zia in the UK which ultimately made him delighted with tears of joy rolling down in his cheeks from eyes. He took shelter in his mother's lap, the only place of hope in the globe.

Former three-times Prime Minister Khaleda Zia arrived in London with the purpose of better treatment of her chronic diseases which was repeatedly dined by the authoritarian government of Sheikh Hasina.

After the long fight to establish her civic right and scope for better treatment, BNP Chairperson reached at Heathrow on Wednesday at 9:10 am local time on a Qatar air ambulance equipped with modern medical facilities.

BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman received Begum Khaleda Zia at the airport.

This historic reunion of mother and son at Heathrow International Airport will undoubtedly remain unique in the history.

When the issue of most nearest person in the world arises, no doubt there is only one person who is "mother", the sweetest word in the world. Perhaps her child is the dearest to a mother due to the integrality of the relation.

However, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister, Begum Khaleda Zia had to stay alone during her difficult days for 2,733 days without her only surviving son Tarique Rahman.

Begum Khaleda Zia, who uncompromisingly fought for democracy, lost her youngest son Arafat Rahman Koko abroad a decade ago due to illness on January 24, 2015.

Besides, her eldest son Tarique Rahman went to London on September 11, 2008 for better treatment due to sickness. But, he couldn't return home due to lawsuits, repression and torture as well as his own security during fascist regime of Sheikh Hasina, resulting staying in abroad.

Khaleda Zia left Dhaka for London from Dhaka Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Tuesday night. On her way to the airport thousands of supporters and well wishers and grassroots party leaders and workers showered their respects and trust on her waving their hands, party and national flags and banners.

People waved goodbye to their beloved leader and wished for her early recovery.
