UKBCCI sees Bangladesh's enormous prospect in shifting political landscape

DHAKA, Jan 8, 2024 (BSS) - A visiting delegation of the UK-Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce and Industry (UKBCCI) today lauded Bangladesh's enormous prospect in shifting political landscape and pledged to intensify efforts to expand business relations between Bangladesh and Britain.

The delegation led by Dr. Rupa Huq MP, House of Commons of the British Parliament made the observation while called on Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain at the foreign ministry here, said a ministry’s press release.  

During the meeting, the foreign adviser highlighted sacrifices of the students and mass people during the July-August uprising, and ongoing institutional and economic reforms under the Interim Government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Emphasizing strong bilateral ties with the UK, Touhid drew attention to the ongoing misinformation campaigns against Bangladesh and appreciated vocal support of friends in the UK Parliament in fending off such malicious efforts.

He also lauded bilateral trade and investment between the two countries and encouraged British businesses to capitalize Bangladesh's economic opportunities and sought innovative ideas to enhance the relationship further.

During her remarks, Dr. Rupa Huq MP underlined Bangladesh's immense potential, particularly the presence of huge number of young population.

While expressing hope for a corruption-free new Bangladesh with continued progress, she shared optimism about diversification of Bangladesh’s export basket and the prospect of its prawn industry.

She further wished for improvement in labor rights and laws in Bangladesh.

The delegates from UKBCCI spoke on inter-alia market expansion, investment opportunities, and BIDA’s role in upgrading the investment landscape.

They emphasised opportunities related to recruitment of Bangladeshi skilled workers in the nursing, care giving, hospitality, and service sectors of the UK, and the need for language training, cultural orientation and skill development.

However, as the delegates are mostly Bangladeshi-origin British nationals, they aspired for improved services from the Bangladesh missions abroad.
