DHAKA, Jan 14, 2025 (BSS) - Labour Reform Commission today held separate view-exchange meetings with leaders from various national trade unions and assistants-cum-guards employed through outsourcing in government primary schools.

The employees during the meeting that held at Sromo Bhavan this morning demanded permanent employment status and fixed working hours, highlighting their long-standing service under government directives.

Despite performing duties following government instructions, their employment via outsourcing deprives them of key benefits such as job security, increments, and allowances, said the employees expressing frustration over the lack of their recognition.

Labour Reform Commission head Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed encouraged the workers to submit a formal written proposal outlining their demands, including benefits, overtime, and other entitlements.

In the afternoon around 4:30pm, the commission held another meeting with leaders from various national trade unions.

Chaired by Labour Reform Commission head Syed Sultan Uddin, the meeting was also attended by Razequzzaman Ratan, Shakil Akhter Chowdhury, Anwar Hossain and Ariful Islam.

The discussion focused on reforms to labor laws and recommendations for enhancing the rights of the country's workforce.

Key issues raised by the union leaders, including justice for workers fatalities, reforming and enforcement of labour laws, removal of barriers to forming trade unions and ensuring fair wages apart from safe working conditions for labors.

They also demanded strengthening oversight mechanisms for labor law implementation and securing fundamental rights for workers.

The meetings underscored the commission's commitment to addressing labor grievances and fostering a collaborative environment for comprehensive reforms.

The outcomes of these discussions are expected to guide future policies aimed at improving conditions for workers across the nation.
