DHAKA, Feb 25, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of party's vice chairman, former minister and valiant freedom fighter Abdullah Al Noman.

In a condolence message, he said Noman used to take a stand for the people during all the crises of the country as a patriotic politician, adding he was highly respected by the countrymen as a national politician.

Recalling his contribution, the BNP acting chairman said, "Noman had deep confidence in the principles and ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam and belief in the Bangladeshi nationalist philosophy".

Tarique Rahman said being an uncompromising fighter, he has worked tirelessly in the movement to restore democracy in the country since the founding of BNP.

He noted: "Abdullah Al Noman pursued politics with the great goal of public service and that was why he made a great contribution to the development and progress of the country, including his own area, as a minister of the government."

His contribution as a unique organizer of the War of Liberation in 1971 will be remembered forever by the nation, he said.

He added: "Alongside as a wise and popular politician, he was genuinely accepted by all as a decent and humble person."

Tarique Rahman went on saying that Noman fought for the freedom of speech and expression of the people, firmly holding Bangladeshi nationalism and multi-party democratic spirit in his heart, which was unforgettable.

"I'm deeply saddened at the demise of an idealistic politician like him at this time," he said, praying for eternal peace of his departed soul.

The BNP acting chairman also extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and well-wishers.

Abdullah Al Noman, one of the organizers of the Liberation War and veteran politician, passed away here today at the age of 79. 

"Noman suddenly fell ill at his Dhanmondi residence early this morning as he was immediately rushed to Square Hospital, where the on duty doctor declared him dead around 6 am," BNP Chairperson's Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said. 

He is survived by wife, a son, a daughter, grandsons and granddaughters, a host of relatives, friends, admirers and political fellows.
