RAJSHAHI, April 20, 2025 (BSS)- A daylong scientific conference on 'Computational Physics and Materials Science' was held at Rajshahi University (RU) here today.

The Department of Physics of the university organized the conference at the Senate Building in honour of Emeritus Professor AKM Azharul Islam also founder of the Condensed Matter Physics Laboratory.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Mayeen Uddin addressed the opening ceremony as chief and the special guests respectively while  Prof Nazrul Islam  chaired the event.

Prof AKM Azharul Islam spoke on the occasion as guest of honour, while secretary of the conference Prof Ashraf Ali welcomed the participants.
 
In his remarks, VC Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib said the physics department's Condensed Matter Physics Laboratory has not only become unique at RU also in the whole country in research on relevant fields. The laboratory has been playing a pioneering role for around 40 years.

Besides, former researchers have attained success in the field of higher education and research in home and abroad.

Prof Saleh Naquib also said the founder of the laboratory Prof Azharul Islam has become lighthouse through his meticulous efforts and research and the laboratory has gained fame and dignity with his competent leadership and guidance.

Three research papers on the related field were presented. Apart from this, 69 other research papers and 44 souvenir papers were presented in the technical and other relevant sessions.
