DHAKA, June 18, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the Awami League (AL) carried out misrule throughout its 15-year regime while it destroyed all constitutional institutions.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the formal inauguration of the Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP membership renewal programme at Ranabhola in Turag in the capital this afternoon.

Fakhrul said because of the meeting between Chief Adviser Prof Dr. Muhammad Yunus and BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, the national election may be held in February instead of April.

"Due to this meeting, one party has been disillusioned, they are unhappy. They know which party will form the government if the election is held," he added.

"We work for the people and the country. If our party comes to power, the unemployment problem will be solved first. Jobs will be provided to one crore unemployed people. The government will be run by giving priority to young people," he said.

He said those extorting money at present are professional extortionists.
All those extortionists try to join the government party in any way, he said, adding there will be no room for extortionists in BNP.

"In 1991, there was no guarantee of how many seats BNP would get. However, BNP had a good image, so it was able to form the government by getting the majority," he recalled.

Turag Thana BNP Acting Convener Harun-or-Rashid Khokan chaired the event while Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Convener Md. Aminul Haque and Member Secretary Md. Mostafa Zaman also spoke, among others.
