DHAKA, June 19, 2025 (BSS) - Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said that the police are working with courage to contain crimes by risking their lives.

"The police personnel are working bravely to check crimes even by risking their lives," he said after visiting two police personnel at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) who suffered bullet injuries in an attack by the illegal drug traffickers during an anti-drug raid in the capital's Fakirapool area early today.

Police arrested three drug peddlers for their suspected connection with a shooting that injured three Detective Branch (DB) personnel in the capital's Fakirapool area.

Around 9500 pieces of Yaba tablets and a private car used in the drug peddling were seized from their possessions.

Deputy Commissioner of DB of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the matter to BSS.

He said three members of DB suffered bullet injuries as suspected drug traffickers fired gunshots at them when they were in an anti-drug raid in Fakirapool early today.

In the firing, Assistant Commissioner Soeb Kabir sustained bullet wounds in his hand while Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Atik Hasan in his abdomen and Constable Sujan in his leg, he said.

AC Soeb took first aid while the remaining two were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

The drug traffickers fired gunshots from inside a private car at the DB personnel as they attempted to intercept the car, he said.

Three suspects were arrested at the scene, while several others managed to flee under the cover of gunfire.

A case was filed in connection.
