DHAKA, June 21, 2025 (BSS) – The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has alerted all concerned over misleading information about the movement of the United International University (UIU), saying they were trying to resolve the matter through discussions.

A DMP statement issued around 5pm today, said police have tried to control the situation peacefully and are trying to resolve the issue through discussions without any use of force.

“However, some people are spreading misleading information on social media, which is completely baseless,” it stated.

In this situation, the DMP has requested all concerned to refrain from spreading unnecessary confusion about the incident.

It is to be noted that traffic continues on one side of the Badda-Kuril Road, it said.

The statement said, a group of 30-40 students took position at Notunbazar intersection on Madani Avenue under Badda Police Station and blocked the road with various demands, including withdrawal of the expulsion order of the students, causing disruption to the movement of vehicles around 8:30am today as per their pre-announced programme.

At the beginning of the program, the police members on-duty discussed with the protesters several times and requested them to leave the road without creating obstacles in the way of public movement.

The police members’ on-duty tried to remove the protesters from the road around 10:30 am to reduce the sufferings of the people, but at one stage, there was a scuffle with the police and the police removed the protesters from the road, the statement said.

Later, around 10.45 am, the protesting students resumed their movement by occupying the road and additional police have been deployed at the spot.

“Efforts are ongoing to resolve the issue through discussions with the university representatives and students,” it said.
