DHAKA, June 22, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed today said BNP wants to go back to Fifth Amendment as far as fundamental constitutional principles of the country are concerned.

“If we go back to the Fifth Amendment, we will have no objection,” he said adding it will enshrine equality, human dignity, democracy and social justice in the constitution.” he said.

Salahuddin said this at a press briefing after the fifth-day of the discussion of the second phase of the National Consensus Commission at the Foreign Service Academy here.

Commission’s Vice-Chairman Prof Dr. Ali Riaz chaired the discussion while members Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Md. Ayub Mia and Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haidar were present.

Thirty two political parties, including BNP, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizens Party (NCP), Gano Odhikar Parishad, Biplobi Workers Party, Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party participated in today's discussions.
