Special lecture on intangible cultural heritage at DU tomorrow

DHAKA, July 20, 2025 (BSS)- A special lecture to raise awareness on ‘intangible cultural heritage’ protection among the young generation will be held at the Dhaka University (DU) tomorrow.

The programme titled ‘2025 ICH youth network special lecture’ will be held at DU’s Mujaffar Ahmad Chowdhury Auditorium at 2 pm.

The special lecture has been arranged with the joint initiative of UNESCO ICHCAP and Department of Anthropology of Dhaka University.

The main conception under the Intangible cultural heritage are belief of every community, rituals, performance,  social festival, handicraft, surrounding knowledge and tradition used in environment protection and it is also an identity of the culture and integral part of the tradition.

Such tradition transforming from generation to generation and maintain the culture of the society and social cohesion. 

But many traditions are facing threat of extinction due to influence of globalization and that’s why it is indispensible to increase awareness and participation of the young generation for protecting the intangible cultural heritage.
