DHAKA, Oct 18, 2025 (BSS) - Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Water Resources Syeda Rizwana Hasan today underscored the necessity of sustainable governance to ensure environmental protection and safeguard the well-being of future generations.

"While undertaking energy-related projects, it is essential to conduct feasibility studies with a focus on environmental friendliness, public interest and the social impact of the projects," she said.

The adviser made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop titled "Sustainability Governance of China's Energy Investment in Bangladesh", held at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital.

Highlighting the strong bilateral ties between Dhaka and Beijing, she said, "China is one of Bangladesh's key development partners. The two countries share long-standing diplomatic relations."

She noted that China has been providing both financial and technical assistance to Bangladesh in areas such as infrastructural development, socio-economic progress, river pollution and environmental degradation.

"Green buildings are still not widely practiced in Bangladesh. We must adopt green technology and construct environmentally sustainable buildings," Rizwana added.

She pointed out that Bangladesh has set a target to generate 30 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.

The adviser also called upon China to extend necessary investments and technological support for ensuring clean air, improved waste management, and sustainable development across Bangladesh.

The workshop was chaired by Dr. Mohammad Badrul Amin, associate professor of Political Science at the University of Dhaka (DU).

Among others, DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr. Sayema Haque \Bidisha and Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Jalal Ahmed were present at the event.
