DHAKA, Oct 18, 2025 (BSS)- Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin this evening visited the site of the fire that broke out at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka, assuring that all-out efforts are underway to resume flight operations as soon as possible.

“We will reopen the airport at the earliest,” the adviser told reporters after visiting the scene.

“As you know, flight operations are currently suspended. We are working to restore services by tonight if possible,” he added.

Bashir said the fire had largely been brought under control due to coordinated efforts by the Fire Service, armed forces and other agencies, and that authorities were now concentrating on restoring normal operations.

“Our immediate goal is to restart the airport operations quickly and in an orderly manner,” he said, adding that all relevant stakeholders were in consultation to maintain airport functionality and safety.

He sought prayers from the nation to overcome the situation smoothly. “We seek the blessings of Almighty Allah to ease our task. We are trying our best to bring the airport back to full operation soon,” he said.

The adviser informed that the blaze was confined to the import cargo area, while the export cargo section remained completely safe.

“A high-level committee will be formed to assess the extent of damage and conduct a thorough investigation,” he added.

Bashir said several firefighters sustained injuries while working to contain the blaze and were receiving medical treatment.

“Although the situation is under control, there are still some isolated pockets of fire. I am personally monitoring the efforts on the ground,” he said.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring full airport operations at the earliest possible time.
