Over 8 lakh workers went abroad with jobs since January: official

DHAKA, Oct 19, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh has sent 822,902 workers abroad with employments in the past nine months, nearly two thirds of them to Saudi Arabia, officials said today.

 “Saudi Arabia was the destination of 586,764 out of the 822,902 workers went abroad this year with employment until September 30 this year,” additional director general of Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) Md Ashraf Hossain told BSS.

 He said as part of efforts to promote overseas job markets, BMET was providing basic training to overseas job seekers specially Saudi Arabia-bound workers as the country requires migrant workers’ basic skills for employment.

 “Our target to train 50,000 overseas job seekers per month,” Hossain said.

 According to the official Saudi Arabia bound job seekers will particularly getting three-day training with Tk. 2,000 charge by online admission, while each worker needs to pay US$50 for test after the training.

  The government has allocated Tk. 3.70 crore for development of 61 training organisations for skill development of intending migrant workers.

 Bangladesh currently has 47 state-run vocational training centres, four institutes of marine technology to train migrant workers.

  The Bangladesh Bank (BB) data suggests inflow of remittances witnessed a year-on-year growth of 9.6 percent reaching US$1435 million in the first 15 days of October while the amount was $1310 million in the same period of the corresponding year.

 During the July to October 15, 2025 of the current fiscal, expatriates sent home $9,021 million, which was $7,853 million during the same period of the previous fiscal.
