DHAKA, Oct 22, 2025 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today acquitted all the 44
people, including former BNP lawmaker Habibul Islam Habib, convicted and
sentenced to different jail terms in an arms case and a case filed under The
Special Powers Act, over the 2002 attack on the motorcade of the then leader
of the opposition Sheikh Hasina in Satkhira.

A High Court division bench of Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam and Justice
Mubina Asaf passed the order, allowing the criminal appeals filed by the
convicts.

Advocate Aminul Islam moved the pleas for the defence while Deputy Attorney
General Mojibur Rahman stood for the state.

The HC on February 27, 2025, had acquitted Habibul Islam Habib of another
case lodged over the attack on the motorcade of Sheikh Hasina.

A High Court division bench of Justice Mohammad Ali and Justice Sk Tahsin Ali
passed the order, allowing a revision plea, challenging the lower court
judgment that convicted and sentenced him to 10 years' jail in the case of
the former lawmaker.

The attack took place in Kolaroa, Satkhira on August 30, 2002. The attackers
vandalised a couple of vehicles in the convoy, too.
