‘Govt formulating 25yrs action plan for ensuring food security’

DHAKA, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS) - Agriculture Secretary Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian today said the government is formulating a 25-year action plan for ensuring food security.   
 
“A 25-year action plan is being formulated to ensure food security for all.  The production system will be made sustainable and profitable and technology-based as well,” he told a workshop here.  
 
The agriculture secretary made the remarks while addressing the regional workshop as the chief guest.  The Agriculture Ministry organized the workshop held at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) auditorium at Farmgate in the capital.
 
Representatives of relevant organizations from Dhaka and Mymensingh regions attended the workshop  to develop the agriculture sector.
 
Addressing the workshop Emdad Ullah Mian said, “I hope that we will be able  to present a plan by December this year to make the agriculture sector more developed and self-reliant by 2050.”
 
Mentioning that there are 17 departments under the Agriculture Ministry, he has called upon all concerned here to work in coordination.
 
“We have to work with a well-planned goal. Our job will be to further develop the agriculture sector. The agricultural sector has improved a lot and work needs to be done to improve this sector further,” he opined.
 
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman presided over the workshop.
 
FAO Representative in Bangladesh Jiaoqun Shi spoke on the occasion as the special guest while Executive Chairman of BARC Dr. Nazmun Nahar Karim delivered the welcome address.
