DHAKA, Oct 24, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said if the party forms the government in the upcoming national election, a separate cultural academy will be established for the country's ethnic communities.
"If BNP comes to power, the establishment of a separate cultural academy for ethnic minorities in Dhaka and the official celebration of their various festivals will be actively considered," he told Dhaka Wangala-2025 ceremony as the chief guest, held at Banani Bidyaniketan School & College this evening.
Stressing that the problems of ethnic minorities would be considered with utmost importance if the BNP forms the government, he added, "Recently, I have developed a relationship with the ethnic minorities. I am talking to them and have listened to their problems."
Referring to the need for all ethnic minorities to be integrated into the country's mainstream culture, the veteran BNP leader noted, "Everyone must unite with our mainstream culture. In spirit and mind, everyone must stand up as a citizen of Bangladesh."
"This is why Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman identified Bangladesh's nationalism as Bangladeshi Nationalism. The sole purpose of this was to grant recognition not just to Bengalis, but also to the residents and ethnic minorities who live in Bangladesh," he added.
Mentioning the role of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to solve the problems of the minorities, Fakhurul said, "Begum Khaleda Zia, in her Vision 2030, announced the formation of a separate Rights Commission to protect the culture and heritage of the ethnic minorities and resolve their issues."
