RANGAMATI, Oct 26, 2025 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today stressed the need for modernizing infrastructure to protect and boost the fisheries resources of Kaptai Lake.

"If important establishments, including the Rangamati BFDC landing station, can be modernized, the fisheries resources and related activities will be significantly enhanced," she said.

The adviser made the remark after visiting the Rangamati BFDC Kaptai Lake Fisheries Development and Marketing Centre here at noon.

Farida Akhter said that despite their importance to the national economy, many key establishments - including the Kaptai Lake fisheries landing station - are in a miserable and dilapidated condition.

"The ministry will take steps to modernize and standardize these establishments as soon as possible," she added.

Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) Chairman Faraha Shammi, Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habib Ullah, District BFDC Manager Mohammad Fayez Al Karim, and other officials were present.
