
DHAKA, Oct 26, 2025 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum today said that Bangladesh has made encouraging progress in several areas of the health sector towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
“Overcoming the complexities and challenges in the health sector will be possible through a coordinated approach involving all stakeholders,” she said.
The adviser was addressing a workshop titled “From Evidence to Way Forward: Mid-term Reflections on Health SDG Progress in Bangladesh” at the CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka.
Highlighting recent government initiatives, Nurjahan Begum said that around 7,500 doctors have recently been promoted to different positions, the recruitment process for 3,500 new doctors is nearing completion, and another 3,500 nurses have already been appointed.
Besides, steps are underway to recruit various categories of health workers and other essential personnel to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country, she said.
The adviser also stressed the need for collaborative and evidence-based actions to further reduce maternal and child mortality, as well as to prevent deaths caused by non-communicable diseases through identifying and addressing their root causes.
Officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), World Health Organization (WHO), and representatives from other relevant ministries, departments, and organizations attended the event.
