DMP asked to strengthen security around EC Secretariat

DHAKA, Oct 28, 2025 (BSS) – The Election Commission (EC) has asked the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to beef up security around the EC secretariat ahead of the upcoming general election. 

The EC in a letter sent to DMP Commissioner today made the request to strengthen security around the EC secretariat as preparations of the upcoming 13th national parliament election is progressing there.

Deputy Secretary and Chief Security Officer of the EC secretariat Shahid Abdus Salam signed the letter.

“It is necessary to beef up round the clock security around the EC secretariat as the preparation of the upcoming 13th national parliament election is progressing”, the letter said referring to a cocktail explosion in front of the sculpture of the Election Commission at around 11.10pm on October 25.

The ‘Nirbachan Bhaban’ is now under at risk as business activities are going on in front of the Bhaban and its adjacent areas from evening to midnight during holiday and after office hours.

So, it is necessary to close these business activities and also to beef up security infront and the adjacent areas of the ‘Nirbachon Bhaban’, the letter detailed.

“Under these circumstances, it has been requested to take necessary action for deploying required number of SB police members for ensuring round the clock security of the EC,” it added.
