DHAKA, Oct 29, 2025 (BSS) – A total of 174 irregular Bangladeshi nationals have repatriated from Libya through a chartered flight of Burak Air under a coordinated initiative supported by the Government of Libya and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the voluntary repatriation was facilitated jointly by the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.

The flight carrying the returnees landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, said a press release here today.

Most of the returnees had reportedly entered Libya through human traffickers, who lured them with promises of irregular sea migration to Europe.

Many of them were also subjected to abduction and torture at various times during their stay in Libya.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relevant government agencies, and the IOM received the returnees at the airport.

The Foreign Ministry urged them to share their difficult experiences with others to help raise awareness about the risks of irregular migration.

The IOM provided each returnee with travel allowances, food supplies, and basic medical assistance upon arrival.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the IOM are continuing joint efforts to ensure the safe return of Bangladeshi nationals still detained in various Libyan detention centers.
