DHAKA, Oct 29, 2025 (BSS) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid today said the youth of 2024 are the successors of the martyrs of 1971, transforming the nation's trajectory.

"Both the youth of 1971 and 2024 were inspired by equality, human dignity, and the dream of an enlightened society. To structure a society based on equality and democracy, we must repeatedly recall the selfless contributions of the youth of July," she said.

The adviser was addressing the unveiling ceremony of the 'July Self-Sacrifice of the Media' commemorative volume and the July Dialogue event, organized by Mukto Ganamadhyam Manch, at the Bishwo Sahitya Kendra auditorium in the capital.

Remembering the martyrs, she said, "You will live on in millions of lives. Building the country of the future, establishing an equitable society, and eliminating all injustice require the cooperation of journalists, political parties, and young citizens alike."

She highlighted the crucial role of journalists in sustaining the aspirations of July, saying, "Those who are the conscience of the nation can be the architects of Bangladesh's future. Through their writings, the country must move forward, ensuring that the sacrifices of martyred journalists are not in vain."

Chaired by Mukto Ganamadhyam Manch spokesperson Mohammad Abdullah Majumder, it was also addressed by CEO of the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation Lieutenant Colonel (Retd.) Kamal Akbar, Jamaat-E-Islami Central Working Committee member Dr Helal Uddin and NCP joint secretary Faridul Haque.

Shamsi Ara Zaman, mother of martyred journalist Tahir Zaman Priyo, also attended on behalf of the families of martyred journalists.
